What is Yappyy?
Yappyy is a voice dictation app for Mac. Hold a key, talk, and let go: clean, punctuated text appears wherever your cursor is, in any app, about half a second later. It removes filler words like "um" and "you know" and fixes self-corrections as it goes.
How much does Yappyy cost?
Yappyy is $4.99, paid once, with no subscription. It starts with a 7-day free trial, no credit card needed. Transcription runs on your own AssemblyAI account, so you pay AssemblyAI directly for what you use, and new AssemblyAI accounts get $50 in free credits.
Why do I need an AssemblyAI API key?
Yappyy sends your speech straight from your Mac to AssemblyAI, which transcribes and cleans it up. Using your own key means there is no Yappyy server in between and no markup on transcription. Creating a key takes a minute, and the key is stored encrypted on your Mac.
Does Yappyy work in every app?
Yes. Yappyy types into whatever has focus: Slack, Gmail, Notes, Messages, your code editor, the terminal, and AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot.
Which languages does Yappyy support?
Yappyy supports 32 languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Hindi, Arabic, and Turkish. Pick the ones you speak and you can mix them in a single sentence. It never translates.
Is my voice private?
Your audio goes from your Mac to AssemblyAI over an encrypted connection, to their US servers, and only while you dictate. Yappyy has no server that stores your audio or text. Your history and stats stay on your Mac, and Yappyy never reads password fields.
What do I need to run Yappyy?
A Mac with macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Yappyy is a native app of about 9 MB, so it starts instantly and sits quietly in your menu bar.
Can I change how the text is formatted?
Yes. Pick a style: Proper Yap for full sentences ending with a period, Easy Yap for normal capitals with no period at the end, or Lazy Yap for all lowercase that keeps names capitalized. Add names and jargon to your Dictionary so they are always spelled right.
